On match day 2 in the Referee Cup in Germay, the MFRA team faced the leaders of Group B. The match was a tight affair as both teams needed a win to obtain a better placing in the overall ranking. It was a balanced match with both sides defending well. The boys in red gave their utmost and had more chances to score, however the goal keeper denied all their efforts. In the dying minutes of the match, the opposing team managed to score from a corner.

At the end of the group stage, the Maltese team managed to obtain 7 points with two losses, one draw and two wins. After the group stage, the reds now had two remaining matches to play. The team had to compete for a placing between the 9th and 12th place in the overall ranking. In the first match the MFRA team lost against Lüneburg I (0 – 3) however, in the second match our referees managed to obtain a positive result against Luxemburg on penalties, after a very positive performance (3 -2). Thus, the MFRA team finished its commitments, in the ‘Referee Cup 2009’, in the 11th place.

Twenty-three teams were taking part in the tournament with a number of the sides playing in amateur leagues even though the team members are referees. Thus, considering that our referees only play half an hour of football during their weekly training sessions, this was a very positive result for both the MFRA and also for Maltese Football in general.

On Friday, the Maltese contingent had the opportunity to visit the HSH Nordbank Arena, which is the home stadium of the Bundesliga team of Hamburg SV. It is important to mention that this stadium was also one of the stadia for the 2006 World Cup. The same stadium will also host the the Europa League 2010 Cup Final. After the visit, there was some time for sightseeing in the city of Hamburg.

Match day 1 saw the MFRA team face four German teams in Group B. The first match ended with a disappointing result, as the Maltese team lost with a deficit of two goals, after being in the lead, to Wacker Neustadt (1-3). The next three games awarded the patience of the MFRA, as the team managed to obtain a draw against SR-Vereinigung Hagen (1-1), and two wins against SV Eintracht Lüneburg (1-0) and SR-Gruppe Nürtingen (1-0) respectively. The Maltese team managed to open the scoreline in all the respective matches.

The Maltese team is standing third in Group B with 7 points. The first and second teams have 10 and 9 points respectively. This leaves the team needing a win to possibly top the group, and match day 2 reserves a clash against the top team in the group.

The Maltese referee contingent left Malta on Thursday morning, landing in Amsterdam. From there they boarded a train to Germany passing through Osnabruck, Hamburg and reaching their final destination, Luneburg, in the evening. The referees had a very warm welcome from the officials of SV Eintracht Luneburg, who are the organisers of the tournament. After settling down in the hotel they were invited to a welcome dinner which was organised at the club’s premises.

Friday is a rest day and the team will have the opportunity to visit the World Cup Stadium in Hamburg. This is the same stadium which will host the Europa League 2010 Cup Final. After there will be some time for a sightseeing tour of the city.

The ‘Referee Cup 2009’ will commence on Saturday and the Maltese team was drawn in Group B, alongside five German teams.

Referee-Cup auf der Hasenburg

Lüneburg (mi). Dieses Wochenende (20./21. Juni) veranstaltet die SV Eintracht Lüneburg auf der Hasenburg den 11. Referee-Cup.

Ein Turnier mit deutschen Fußballschiedsrichtern und Unparteiischen aus den Niederlanden, Finnland, Luxemburg, Österreich und Malta. Turnierbeginn ist am heutigen Samstag um 15.30 Uhr Uhr mit anschließender Players-Night ab 18 Uhr. Sonntag geht's dann um 10.15 Uhr weiter. Das Finale steigt gegen 13.30 Uhr.

Diese Wochenende kommen Schiris aus ganze Europa zum 11. Referee-Cup der SV Eintracht

Sechs Jahre haben sie pausiert - jetzt ist die Schiedsrichterwelt wieder auf der Hasenburg zu Gast. Nach der letzten Austragung 2003 veranstalten die Schiedsrichter der SV Eintracht Lüneburg am heutigen Samstag und Sonntag den 11. Referee-Cup.

Der mit 19 Unparteiischen größten Schiedsrichterabteilung im Kreis Lüneburg ist es wieder gelungen, Zusagen von Kollegen aus ganz Deutschland und Europa zu erhalten. Neben Unparteiischen aus Luxemburg (Dudelange), Finnland (Lahti), Österreich (Wien) und den Niederlanden (De Betuwe) ist erstmalig mit der „Malta Football Referees Association“ ein Team von der schönen Mittelmeerinsel dabei.

Die 16-köpfige Gruppe der Malteser, die mit mehreren FIFA-Referees anreisen, wird ihren fünftägigen Aufenthalt auch dazu nutzen, sich ein wenig in der Region umzuschauen, so standen gestern u. a. die Besichtigung der HSH-Nordbank-Arena und des HSV-Museum an.

Aus Lüneburg nehmen neben den Gastgebern zwei Kreisauswahlteams teil, aus den Nachbarkreisen sind die Schiris aus Uelzen und Harburg mit von der Partie.

Titelverteidiger ist die SR-Vereinigung Duisburg-Nord, die die beiden letzten Turniere 2001 und 2003 gewann.

Besonders wichtig war es schon immer für die Einträchtler, dem „Einzelkämpfer“ Schiedsrichter auch einmal die Möglichkeit zu geben, ein sportliches Gemeinschaftserlebnis zu erhalten und mit Kollegen aus der ganzen Fußballwelt, egal, ob FIFA- oder Kreisklassen-Schiedsrichter, egal, ob Finne oder Franke, Gedanken und Erfahrungen auszutauschen und viel voneinander zu lernen.

Gespielt wird auf vier Kleinfeldern, Turnierbeginn ist am Samstag um 15:30 Uhr und am Sonntag um 10:15 Uhr. Das Finale wird am Sonntag voraussichtlich gegen 13:30 Uhr stattfinden.

Auch für das „Drumherum“ haben die Eintracht-Schiris gesorgt: am Samstag findet ab ca. 18:00 Uhr die „Players Night“ mit einem großen Büffet statt, eine große Tombola mit tollen Preisen ist organisiert - so lohnt sich trotz des gleichzeitigen Stadtfestes sicherlich ein Besuch auf der Hasenburg!

Eintrachts internationales Turnier für Fußball-Schiedsrichter lebt wieder auf

re Lüneburg. Nach einer schöpferischen Pause, die sich die Veranstalter nahmen, lebt eine Traditions-Veranstaltung wieder auf: Die Fußball-Schiedsrichter der SV Eintracht Lüneburg haben an diesem Wochenende zum 11. Referee-Cup eingeladen, und wie üblich sind auch viele internationale Gäste auf der Hasenburg dabei. Gespielt wird am Sonnabend ab 15.30 Uhr auf zwei Plätzen und am Sonntag ab 10.15 Uhr, wobei das Finale gegen 13.30 Uhr steigt.

Dass die Männer, die sonst für die Einhaltung der Regeln sorgen, auch selbst gut kicken können, haben sie bei früheren Turnieren auf der Hasenburg hinlänglich bewiesen - ebenso, dass sie es spannend machen können und sich wie die "richtigen" Fußballer freuen können. So gewann die Schiedsrichter-Vereinigung Duisburg-Nord bei der letzten Austragung 2003 im Acht-Meter-Schießen gegen den NFV-Kreis Uelzen das Finale, machten die ausgelassen feiernden Spieler anschließend die "Raupe" auf dem Rasen.

Der Titelverteidiger - auch Sieger 2001 - ist natürlich wieder dabei, dazu neben einer Auswahl des NFV-Kreises Lüneburg und benachbarter Teams wie aus Uelzen und Harburg auch weit gereiste Referee-Kollegen aus Bayern, Westfalen, Württemberg oder Sachsen-Anhalt und viele Unparteiische aus dem Ausland: Stammgäste wie die Finnen aus Lahti oder die Holländer aus de Betuwe, aber auch Österreicher (Wien), Luxemburger (Dudelange) oder auch erstmals FIFA-Schiris von der Mittelmeer-Insel Malta.

Diese 16-köpfige Gruppe will ihren fünftägigen Aufenthalt in Lüneburg auch dazu nutzen, sich ein wenig in der Region umzuschauen. So steht in Hamburg ein Besuch des HSV-Museums ebenso auf dem Programm wie die Besichtigung der HSV-Arena.

Aber für das Drumherum beim Turnier haben die Eintracht-Organisatoren um Jürgen Schulz und Oliver Vogt ohnehin gesorgt. Am Sonnabend ab 18 Uhr findet auf der Hasenburg die "Players Night" mit einem großen Büffet und einer Tombola mit tollen Preisen statt.

Maltese Referees in the 'Referee Cup 2009' in Germany.

Sixteen referees will be travelling to Lueneburg in Germany between the 18^th and 22^nd June 2009 in order to participate in a football tournament open for referees coming from different countries all over Europe.

Amongst the participant teams there are Austria, Finland, Holland, Luxembourg and some other teams coming from different cities in Germany.

This tournament started way back in 1985 and its last edition was held in 2003. Malta will be represented in this football tournament for the very first time.

This happens to be the second occasion in which Maltese referees will be representing our country away from our shores.

Way back in 2003, a group of thirty Maltese referees travelled to Sofia to play two friendly matches against Bulgarian referees. In those two matches Malta played against the national team of Bulgarian referees (1-4) and the referees from Sofia (2-2).

The Malta Football Referees Association partners for this trip are Air Malta and TeamSport.

Referees team to take part in Germany event

A group of 16 Maltese referees will be travelling to Lueneburg in Germany to take part in a football tournament open for referees’ teams between 18 and 22 June.

Teams from Austria, Finland, Holland, Luxembourg and several teams from different German cities are expected to take part in the tournament.

This event started way back in 1985 and the last edition was held in 2003.

It will be the first time that Malta will be represented, but the second occasion in which Maltese referees will be representing the country away. In 2003, a group of Maltese referees travelled to Sofia, Bulgaria, two play two friendly matches against Bulgarian referees.

The MFRA thanked Air Malta for offering special flight fares and TeamSport for offering free sports apparel to the MFRA and its members.

MFRA team for Referee Cup 2009

Sixteen Maltese referees will be travelling to Lueneburg, Germany, to take part in the Referee Cup 2009, a tournament for football officials hailing from Europe between June 18 and 22.

The tournament, launched in 1985, has attracted participation from teams from Austria, Finland, Holland, Luxembourg and several others from German regions.

Malta hosted the event in 2003 but this will be the first time that a team from the Malta Football Referees Association will play in the Referee Cup competition.

Air Malta and TeamSport are the main sponsors of the MFRA team.
